Some kind of polypore.

Found two of these growing on a twig while morel hunting yesterday and wondered what they were. I couldn't find anything in the Audubon Guide that looked like them. The stalks are about a half-inch, and the caps are about 2 in. in diameter. They felt velvety.

Those are old pine logs or branches, they could be old ponderosa boletes, if those are ponderosa pines,mike

Yes, the "teeth" were on the rim of the cap. There are White Pines that area, as well as some Hemlocks...no Ponderosa Pine. I think the twig was that of a maple.
