salamanders in the hen house

I found 2 hen-of-the-woods today. One 5 pounder and a smaller one a little later.
When I picked the smaller one I discovered 2 blue-spotted salamanders under it. I thought that was odd in itself but later, when I pulled the hens out of the bag they shared, I discovered a red-backed salamander in the larger one! Is this some weird coincidence or are salamanders somehow attracted to these things? Has anyone else found salamanders in there hen-of-the-woods?

So far I've found 4 blue spotted salamanders in the 95 hens I've found this year. I thought I had cut the head off of one but it turned out to be a dark slug. That was a few horrible moments. My eye sight is poor up close so I couldn't see any eyes. I searched but didn't find a body. I did find other black slugs in other shrooms.
