Greetings, Michigan Mycophiles!

Hope you are all keeping warm this cool early autumn evening.

I often find mushrooms in my lawn and under trees in the yard, and would love to eat them if only I could make a positive ID. If any of you live near Howell, MI and wouldn't mind me bothering you with the need to identify, let me know.

I know and love morels -- they are one of the ones that grow in my yard. Do Michigan Morels folk cover all of the local edibles, or mainly morels?

I ate one type early this summer that I thought was safe after scouring the internet for images and descriptions. I ended up feeling dizzy and scared in bouts for a good part of the day! So you see why I am skeptical of my own identifying abilities. I'd dearly love to learn more.

What likes these cooler nights in Michigan? I have 2 types coming up today. Both I think are agaricus varieties. One is white and round like the kind you buy. Too young to say what color the gills will be or shape when open. Maybe A. Arvensis? How to know for sure?

The other has a white-buff a membrane covering the gills at first, top is white-buff and dry with a dark brown center and is a little scaly when it opens. Ring on the stem. Broken membrane is yellowy on some. Am getting spore prints tonight. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice to be here!

Welcome to the board Celeste.

Please don't be in such a hurry to consume mushrooms. I tell everyone that is going "Beyond the Morel" to learn to identify what mushrooms will hurt them before they start eating other wild mushrooms (especially all white varieties...Yikes).

Have fun. This is still like a lifelong Science project for me!
